A Dog’s Point of View – highlights of the neighborhood from a local K9. Dorchester dog parks and more,

Hi there, my name is Olive, and I live in Dorchester, Boston, MA. Two years ago, my human and I moved to Dorchester. My tail has been wagging ever since.

One afternoon, I overheard the humans chatting while enjoying a quick dip in the swimming hole with my friends at Victory Road Park. The humans shared why they love living in Dorchester. I have to admit it surprised me when I heard my human say that she chose Dorchester because of me!

New England is considered one of the most pet-friendly states; however, I could bark on and on about the historic community of Dorchester and why it is the next best thing to doggy heaven.

Dog-Friendly Parks

Nothing makes me waggle with glee when I hear the human word “park,” and Dorchester has the best options in Boston for pups like me. Victory Road Park is a local favorite. I know as soon as I cross that little wooden bridge, I’m free to be me! Beautifully maintained trails, a swimming hole, and community drinking bowls that the humans are kind enough to keep full are just a few reasons we love it here. Many pups are off-leash here, but I always find respectful playmates willing to share a toy or play a game of tug-o-war. While

Victory Road Park is not officially a dog park, there are other terrific options.

My pal Sal prefers a fenced-in park, and you can find his tail wagging at Ronan Dog Park in Dorchester. This one-of-a-kind park was nominated as Boston’s Best Dog Parks because they have an expansive 6,000 square foot area perfect for off-leash playtime with your favorite canine pals! There are three more dog parks in the area that offer similar amenities – Dorchester Shores Reservations (my favorite spot for a quick dip or game of water fetch), Peter’s Dog Park, and Ronan Dog Park.

Fido-Friendly Cafe’s

After a romp at the park, we love to walk over to one of the many Fido-friendly cafes that Dorchester offers.

DJ’s Market never disappoints with the traditional fresh deli favorites alongside authentic polish dishes. The water dish out front and bowl full of treats makes me feel right at home.

If your human enjoys an early morning stroll and a fresh cup of java, pull their leash on over to Flat Black, a local Dorchester coffee joint that features my favorite biscuits. Your Fido will be sure to get lots of attention from the talented Barista and friendly locals. Fetch a cold brew?

Dorchester Brewing Co. the freshwater and friendly servers create the perfect atmosphere for Tongue out Tuesday snaps, and the cold craft is ideal for my

human and her friends on a warm summer day.

Doggy Daycare

While I could yap on and on about the furry-friendly amenities in the beautiful community of Dorchester, the fact is that my human can’t spend all her time frolicking with me. And on the days when she begrudgingly goes to “the office,” there are plenty of local doggy daycares that are right around the corner to keep me safe and entertained.

The Pooped Pooch is a local favorite doggy daycare as the Irish lads that run the joint not only offer daycare, dog walks, and pet visits, but we know them as the community canine experts. The Pooped Pooch serves up a different side of fun with its fully stocked store. Even my gluten-free, raw-diet Frenchie bud Rudy can find the most delicious treats that are “vet approved.” Olive approved tip: sit pretty and perk your ears, and you will be “treated” like a princess if you know what I mean.

Animal Hospital

Neponset Animal Hospital boasts some of the friendliest veterinarians and vet tech’s in the community. In the heart of Dorchester, their facility is a state-of-the-art space with over 10,000 square feet of engaging activities for your furry friends. With an onsite pet supply store and two acres to explore in the heart of city limits – we’re sure you’ll find something for even the pickiest pup!
